After having been interested in apologetics for years, I find the lutheran approach to philosophy fascinating and promising. To me it seems to be more thorough-going in both its critique and appropriation than most apologists today have to offer. Of course|About the Author|Jennifer Hockenbery Dragseth is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. Among her many writings are scholarly articles on Augustine, Nietzsche, Hildegard of Bingen, and Luther.
Martin Luther's disdain for philosophy is well known, and the Lutheran theological tradition has been wary of its constructs. Yet the tradition also includes philosophical giants - from Melanchthon to Schleiermacher to Kierkegaard and even Nietzsche. This volume assumes that such skepticism about reason actually opened up new ways of doing and seeing philosophy.
